Hi, my name is John (aka DJ Smersh) and I was born in England in the year our country won the world cup (and so far the only time), 1966. I was raised for the first few years of my life in a quiet Buckinghamshire location then the family moved to the Midlands when I was about 6. I married, got divorced and married again, this time to an American lady by the name of Marianne (her father named her after a character in Gilligan's Island). She is from the northwest side of America. We met on ICQ on December 29th 2000 and after many hours talking I convinced her to come to 'merry old England' for a small holiday, she came and has been by my side ever since. I have two sons whom I am very proud, Tom (14) and Laurence (7) "Ages correct at going to press".

I have had no previous DJ'ing experience but it looked like a lot of fun so I summoned the God of 'let's have a go' and here I am. My musical taste is varied but I mostly listen to the oldies (anything from the fifties to the late seventies) and I mostly enjoy what I regard as 'old school rock', you know, bands like Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, ZZ Top. Having said that I do enjoy a bout of classical as well. I have one confession, which is that I'm a huge James Bond fan. My wife would call it an obsession but I don't care. I became an addict back in the year 1974 when Roger Moore was on the hunt for 'The man with the golden gun'. By the way it's the Bond connection if you're wondering where I go the name Smersh from.

I work to live and not live to work! I save my money to see my family 'across the pond' and I enjoy every minute. Despite what goes on in this world I love the country of America and the people I have met there. I know this sounds cheesy but I also say that there is good and bad in all races and just wished that we could listen to the old clich of 'can't we all just get along'.

So, what kind of radio programme will I be doing? Well, the programme is called 'Across the pond' because of our marriage and because 90% of the music will be singers/bands from either the UK or USA. To suit most tastes I will be playing oldies and some up-to-date tracks. Some rock, blues, motown, pop, country, etc . I'll try to accommodate all if I can. I also like quizzes so I will be testing YOUR knowledge by asking you questions connected with music, just for fun. I may throw in some music trivia too. I hope you enjoy the show as much I will enjoy making it.
