The Milky Way is a barred spiral galaxy that is part of the Local Group of galaxies. Although the Milky Way is one of billions of galaxies in the observable universe,[4] its special significance to humanity is that it is the home galaxy of our Solar System. The plane of the Milky Way galaxy is visible from Earth as a band of light in the night sky, and it is the appearance of this band of light which has inspired the name for our galaxy. It is extremely difficult to define the age at which the Milky Way formed, but the age of the oldest star in the Galaxy yet discovered, HE 1523-0901, is estimated to be about 13.2 billion years, nearly as old as the Universe itself. -Source: Wikipedia.

For the Attention Of Prime Minister Mr Gordon Brown

Dear Gordon

I have a possible solution on how to combat a fair few of the worlds problems as well as making it financially viable.

Most governments or countries look at a problem, raise the cash and try and solve that one problem.

What they fail to do is look at several problems and use those problems to solve and create an answer.

The problems we are going to look at today are: Starvation / Rain forest  / Endangered Species / Environment / Cures for Illnesses

Starvation around the world is either Disasters, War, or Environment that are the main cause and each and every time countries all rally round to buy food or try helping the situation of which billions of pounds are raised and spent

Solution:

The way to effectively combat Starvation on a massive scale you really only need to raise the money once to get the ball rolling and not many times over as you all have done in the past and wasted billions.

Lets say all countries have chipped into a pot for food and shelter. Once the people are strong enough to travel they should be moved to the edges of the rain forest and re-housed.

They in return for food and shelter would be given two types of work. 1 to make a start on re-growing the rain forests, 2 to breed any endangered animal species to be returned to the forest or wherever they live.

They would also need some scientists and biologists with them to teach and show them what is needed doing, but also to place all seed and plant samples for testing for new possible cures of Illnesses, which in time would create new forms of income

Professional wild  life experts would also be called upon for a breeding program of endangered wildlife.

The people would be known World-Wide as The Greenhouse Growers to be given there own Badge of Identity a Uniform and if possible flag of recognition

How to finance this project.. so that it does not become a never ending money-pit...what the Greenhouse Growers are creating is the solution to a world wide problem that will in time, aid and help the Environment of which every human being lives under. So in every country whether it be decided 10p per week to 50p out of every working person, that money would all go towards this project until the biologists discover cures from the plants of the rainforests, of which the money from the cures would then aid and help towards keeping the greenhouse growers project on-going. In short the world becomes the staving peoples employer and they the employees a match that will help mankind as a whole.

Time line: From 10 years onwards you would be able to see the difference to the rain forests from space. 10-15 years you would see the polar ice caps reappear in the north and south poles. 15-20 years you would notice the difference in the atmosphere being cleaner.

This project is not about a few thousand people but about a few million

Downside:

Moving this amount of people and getting project in place.

In all projects of this nature there will be a small amount of deaths due to dealing with poisonous and dangerous animals as well as some plants, so educating The Green House Growers to be made fully aware is extremely important.

VERY cool plan. I agree that instead of continually feeding those in barren lands is pointless and not a long term solution to the hunger problem. In order to be successful, these people need to be moved to lands with rich soils and plenty of food for the tribe. They then need to be taught skills of planting, growing, harvesting, medicine, and basic care needs in order to thrive in their new envoirnment. I pray that one day the world will wake up and realize that we need to work together to save the planet for future generations to enjoy.
