  <title>KingBathmat-Blue Sea Black Heart</title>
  <link>http://www.radiogetswild.com/MReviews/op=show/rid=404.html</link>
  <description>Artist: KingBathmat
Title: Blue Sea Black Heart
Genre: Rock
Label: Independent
Source Link

KingBathmat is not a hard name to remember. I have this ability to remember every artist I have ever heard and did a review on but cannot remember a thought that crossed my mind 5 minutes ago.

I covered Fantastic Freak Show Carnival three years ago this month. I found that album to be a progressive rock-psychedelic gem and hoped folks would discover this multi-talented artist. His real name is John Basset in case you were interested.

Blue Sea Black Heart once again captured my imagination, made me smile from within and kept me coming back for another listen. This album while excellent is a step away from the 2005 version of KingBathmat. It is more commercially accessible if you will, with more catchy beats and grooves that seem perfectly fitting for radio play while all the while maintaining the foundation of rock and psychedelic tinged progressive music that pulled me in the first time around.

Basset played all the instruments apart from the drums on &quot; The World Outside&quot; which was played by Bernie Smirnoff, who plays in the live band. “Blue Alice” is a superb opener finding John in fine form musically and with a strong appealing voice that makes each word that he sings believable. Somehow, he manages to keep on that track throughout the rest of the album, mixing the entire lot with rockers and shining almost ballad like pop-rockers with influences of all genres rolled into a tight and effective package.

“Paper Bag” I found to most appealing to my ears…it is jam packed with rockin’ guitar licks and a bottom line that could not get any better, and in fact, the bass plays a predominant roll in the track at several points. Everything else in between is just as good. “Hello Algebra” closes things out; it is his throw in freaky Syd Barrett like prog-rocker that was reminiscent of the 2005 release. This leaves you wondering if he will revert to the more a straightforward psych-prog style next time out.

With fine a selection of eight tracks, KingBathmat has won me over again, particularly with the diversity he offered and his obvious talent not only for playing a multitude of instruments but his innate abilities to write a song that leaves a long lasting reminder in your musical taste buds.

  <title>JoJo Styles-Bossa Nuevo Vol. 1 &amp; 2</title>
  <link>http://www.radiogetswild.com/MReviews/op=show/rid=397.html</link>
  <description>Artist: JoJo Styles
Title: Bossa Nuevo Vol. 1 &amp; 2-Light of Love/The Offering (Cool Groove-Hot Guitar)
Genre: Instrumental-Latin-Jazz
Label: Casa Grande Records
Website
MyBandsMusic Profile
Source Link

JoJo Styles had the benefit of developing his music while watching some of the legendary figures perform in San Francisco. He saw Hendrix and Santana and was all over the Bay Area attending the free concerts of the day. Those days are history but for the people that lived and soaked up the vibes of those times the memories are forever imprinted on their souls. He took bits and pieces of those influences and created his own magic on the acoustic six- string called Bossa Nuevo.

Styles compiled a lot of music over the years and it reached its fruition on two volumes titled Vol. 1 &amp; 2 -Light of Love/The Offering (Cool Groove-Hot Guitar), with the emphasis on cool and hot of course.

Styles is an accomplished guitar player and an adept technician. He has a host of equally strong players for support on every track for both releases. In the world of recorded music, you must have the ability to understand how every aspect is linked and make sure you know how to take care of your equipment and keep it all properly tuned to work with the modern day technologies and all of their complexities. After listening to these two CDs, it is certainly apparent that this artist has it all together.

JoJo offers a fusion of styles with his Bossa Nuevo; it is an amalgam of Latin, jazz and rock. This ends up being a very satisfying and tasty mixture of the genre, all wrapped up into a nice package-a made to order ambiance on disc if you will. The artist, strongly influenced by the Latin musical cultures, uses its foundation of musical styles to propel him into different areas that become strengths as each track takes shape. The drive and spirit of this music seems ingrained in his soul. He actually spends part of his year soaking up the music and culture of Honduras to support his inner belief and love for his craft.

This is great music; it serves a multitude of purposes for listeners. If you want some smooth tracks, playing in the background as if you were at an upscale bistro or ethnic restaurant for instance, this would serve the purpose. The movie industry may consider this as an option for their productions as well. For the average listener it serves as something to relax and enjoy, to just kick back and contemplate things, or better yet to just empty your mind and go with the flow of the music.

  <title>Seventhings-Unraveled</title>
  <link>http://www.radiogetswild.com/MReviews/op=show/rid=389.html</link>
  <description>Artist: Seventhings
Title: Unraveled
Genre: Pop-Rock-Modern Rock
Label: Independent
Website
Cd Baby Link
Source Link

Seventhings is the pop-rock product of the Californian singer/songwriter/producer power-duo Margaret McClure and Andy Machin. McClure started out in the music industry with a successful solo career, first as a violinist in the Orange County District Orchestra and then as a solo performer in the California rock scene. Machin spent most of his youth touring with various bands before opening up Bigrock Studios in Escondido, California. After playing together in the bands Seventhings and The Rockinvaders, McClure and Machin decided to collaborate on Unraveled, a pop-rock album recorded at Machin’s Bigrock Studios. The duo’s music has been featured in several TV/film slots, such as “Broadjam&quot;, &quot;American Idol Underground,&quot; MTV’s “My Super Sweet 16” and &quot;Making The Band 4,&quot; “Access Hollywood,&quot; VH1&#039;s &quot;Best Week Ever,” and PBS&#039;s &quot;Road Trip Nation.&quot;
Produced and written by McClure and Machin, Unraveled is a collection of medium to fast tempo pop-rock tunes featuring McClure’s lead-vocals and Machin’s lead-guitar. The album starts off with an average up-tempo pop-rock song, “If It Was You,” followed by a more-bluesy pop-rock song “Hey Angel.”

”Can’t Give your Love,” is a slower, moodier rock song with an adult-contemporary appeal. In songs such as “I’m Gone,” “Make You,” and “Can’t Give Your Love,” McClure’s voice sounds strikingly similar to the character Mimi from the Broadway show, Rent and very much like the 90s’ female singer/songwriter, Merril Bainbridge. McClure’s innocent voice gives most of the songs on this album a very mainstream pop sound.

“Runaway,” is an acoustic, pop-rock duet with colorful harmonies and good songwriting. “The Edge” and “Unravel,” feature Machin’s lead vocals with McClure’s harmonies. The male vocals give the songs a completely different feel—one that sounds more raw and real. Although McClure’s voice is very crisp, she is too much pop and not enough rock. In addition, the dominating youthful and innocent quality of her voice takes away from the heart of these songs. However, McClure’s harmonies really give depth to Machin’s vocals.

“Unravel,” and “Lost” were the two best tracks on the album. “Unravel,” is a mid-tempo pop-rock song with great harmonies and piano. “Lost” was the most unique song on the album for its catchy Latin beat and acoustic guitar. In addition, Machin’s soulful vocals and lyrics add great depth to this song. Unraveled is a well-produced album with infectious vocal harmonies, however several songs on this album blended together and didn’t seem very unique. I would have liked to hear more songs like “Lost” that diverge from the dime a dozen pop-rock sound that seems to overwhelm this album.

  <title>Davie Allan &amp; The Arrows Have A Merry Xmas!</title>

<description>Artist: Davie Allan &amp; The Arrows
Title: Fuzz For The Holidays
Genre: Instrumental Rock-Seasonal
Label: Wicked Cool Records

Underground Garage: http://www.littlestevensundergroundgarage.com/fanclub/davieallan.htm

The king of instrumental fuzz guitar is back again. Legendary instrumental rockers Davie Allan &amp; The Arrows have arrived this holiday season with some Fuzz For The Holidays. You gotta love the label name, Wicked Cool Records, why wouldn’t you buy an album from a label with that name?

Allan made his entry onto the instrumental motion picture scene back in the 60s and he has never looked back, he is still crankin’ out lively instrumental rock, and it simply does not get any better.

Little Steven has a major role in producing this record and he adds some rhythm guitar as well. Speaking of the production side of the house, this is a sound mix with clear and crisp tracks from start to finish. I like the touch of the Farfisa organ; it adds a nice jingle-lingle-ling spirit to the overall mix of things. Allan continues to play like a man possessed, I find it amazing that he has been able to maintain that high level of energy of playing for so many years; he is truly the consummate guitar player’s guitar player.

This is one of the more entertaining holiday rock albums you will ever hear so do not miss it. Instrumental freaks will be happier than a pig rolling in muck and those looking for some rockin’ holiday ho-ho-ho cheer will find joy and the true spirit of the holiday season in this wonderful music. Add this rock ‘n’ roll all-in-one package to your wish list now, its wicked cool.

<title>Alex Woodard- Up With The Sun</title>
  <link>http://www.radiogetswild.com/MReviews/op=show/rid=169.html</link>
  <description>Artist: Alex Woodard
Title: Up With The Sun
Genre: Folk-Pop-Americana
Label: Independent
Website

Alex Woodard is back with a strong follow up to Mile High. Two years later Up With The Sun finds Woodard in good voice once again with crisp and enlightening folk-pop-Americana.

The CD is comprised of 13 tracks that are consistently appealing musically and lyrically. Most of the tracks come filled up with jingly guitars, rootsy dobros and mandolins, and an appropriate rhythm section that seems to fit like a glove for each individual track. You get the occasional rocker like “Yellow Circle Sun,” that really gets your blood pumping but primarily this music will appeal to the roots alternative listeners in the Dave Matthews mold. Woodard comes out strong and his solid backing musicians are a key dynamic in helping to make this album the success it is.

As I recall the last outing, it does not compare musically, and that is a good thing. It is nice to hear something different. An artist needs to explore dissimilar directions with each successive album. At least from my perspective that is what makes it so exciting and enjoyable to hear. Lyrically it is as straightforward as it gets. The stories revolve around relationships between two people. “Lights” has some wonderful phrasing in it-“Like the back porch stairs, breathing in this summer night, I promise to be there, in fields of candlelight.” It sounds like the whisperings of a lover promising that they will always be there for their soul mate.

With the exception of the hidden untitled track that closes out the album this is the kind of warm and introspective music and lyrical content I have come to expect from Woodard. Alex sounded like he needed to clear his throat and he was out of key. I thought that was a bit out of the ordinary after hearing how strong the rest of the album is. The curtain closer is one of those extra tracks that needed reevaluation before including it with this otherwise superb effort. The man is human and that is encouraging in a world of people that are constantly trying to be something they are not. One thing you can count on with Alex Woodard, you get all of him, 100% Alex-good, bad, or indifferent.
