The Milky Way is a barred spiral galaxy that is part of the Local Group of galaxies. Although the Milky Way is one of billions of galaxies in the observable universe,[4] its special significance to humanity is that it is the home galaxy of our Solar System. The plane of the Milky Way galaxy is visible from Earth as a band of light in the night sky, and it is the appearance of this band of light which has inspired the name for our galaxy. It is extremely difficult to define the age at which the Milky Way formed, but the age of the oldest star in the Galaxy yet discovered, HE 1523-0901, is estimated to be about 13.2 billion years, nearly as old as the Universe itself. -Source: Wikipedia.

Answer
Whats a Marathon broadcast

A marathon broadcast is a special show of which the station has live DJ's 24 hours a day. All broadcasters say how many shows they can do and fill in the empty slots. The last marathon No6 went on for 222 hours.
Its great fun as all the broadcasters will tell you and also gives everyone a great sense of achievement. It pulls the whole community together. Don't kid yourself by thinking its easy it takes alot of hard work and team effort from everyone to make sure all goes well, but Oh boy do we have fun.

Can i choose the type of music for the broadcast

Each broadcaster has his or her own style of presenting a show. As I the station founder do not believe in Tying down the DJ's hands with a formatted play list. i.e. Why take away the paints and brushes from an artist and miss out on all the wonderful paintings that can be created.

Your show is in your hands that's what makes RGW. It can be anything from a bluegrass hour to 1940s radio shows. Quizzes and competitions to a set presentation of a particular year of music. Or a certain type of music.

You are the artist your shows are only limited to your imagination. If you are un-certain at any time about the type of show simply ask.

What is expected of a new broadcaster

First off get to know the other broadcasters and be seen in the chat room regular.

To be polite at all times on and off air
Get use to the website and the services RGW provides.
If chosen to become a broadcaster you are expected to do at least 2 x 2 hour shows a week minimum.
To be on time for your broadcasting and if for any reason you can not make a broadcast to make contact as soon as possible so cover can be arranged.

This is a community and all broadcasters work and play together. Everyone one has different skills or knowledge of which can help others. Even if you think you don't have any you will be surprised.

Art and graphics making to creating jingles, trailers, advertising & marketing to just doing plain voice over recording. Everyone helps each other at all times.
Most important of all is a wicked sense of humor and to have fun and enjoy.

I dont know how to use software

All new broadcasters are are helped thought-out from software setting up to helping you use the software.

If you are unsure about anything just ask any of the current broadcasters.

There will be a chilling time before you try for your first test broadcast, to give you enough time to learn.

What do i need

All you need is your wish to be a DJ - and you will need a PC of reasonable specification with an internet connection of Broadband or cable. You will also require a microphone and some music; of course, if you have more DJ gear than this - then you are all set!

The Hardware

The simplest DJ setup would be just your PC and internet connection with our MP3Tunes 2 player software and a microphone plugged into the "Mic In" connector on your sound card.

If you have an external mixer and external music source (such as a CD or Mini Disc players), then you can hook them up to your PC through the sound card's "Line In" connector.

Remember - do not connect the mixer to the "Mic In" connector!
The reason for this is that external mixers usually have a built-in pre-amplifier and so does your sound card's "Mic In" connection - to boost microphone levels. By connecting this incorrectly, you can cause a sound overload which will result in distorted sound.

The Software

The software described in this section is available for broadcasting. Full information on obtaining the relevant packages is explained in the e-mail you receive when you register with RGW Radio.

MP3 Tunes 2 is your MP3 Player mixer you will have to use for your show which has a built in jingle player cross fader ect, You will be given a week to get use to the software and will answer and Q's you have or give you a helping hand on how to use Simple-cast lite is your encoder for encoding music up to the server this we will need to configure for you by remote. The software provides a sound meter so you can make sure that your audio levels are not too high. "When On Air"

Rad-admin is a program we use to remote link to your computers desktop i.e. view and set up our software on your desktop. You are in complete control of your own computer at all times Its a mere case of site back relax and watch the show as the software is configured for you, and you can see what is being done at all times.

Yahoo Messenger we use for voice DJ broadcasters conferences and live interviews over air and sometimes for change over to the next DJ..

We know that some internet connections are never always reliable, so if you get cut off during your show, one of our crew will switch it back to basic rotation until you are ready to go switch back to live.

Recommended PC Specification
Pentium 4 1.700Mhz or higher
128Mb memory or more
Full Duplex Sound Card
Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP
Broadband or cable Internet connection

Sound Card config and set-up

The Broadcaster software will record your PC's audio, using your soundcard settings. You need to make sure that you have all thesettings correct, in order for the correct audio signal to be picked up and transmitted to our server, during your broadcast.

Your audio settings are entirely dependent on which audio play out method you use.

Method 1 - PC Based

A microphone plugged into your PC, and Windows based audio software to play your music. For this set-up, it is essential that you select the correct recording device in the Windows mixer.
To quickly access the recording mixer, go to "Start -> Run and type... sndvol32.exe in the box, before clicking OK. The windows mixer will launch and you will see a series of sliders for each audio input device on your PC.

[align=center]

Make sure that Stereo Mixer is selected to record everything you hear through your PC, including your microphone and your audio software. On some PC set-ups, this slider may be titled "What U Hear" or Stereo Mix. On rare occasions, it may be titled Recording Master - for this kind of set-up, you may need to make sure that your Microphone and Wave sliders on the playback mixer, are un-muted.

Some set-ups allow you to select more than one item to record - if this is the case, make sure that you have selected both "Microphone" and Wave only.

If you can't see any of the above mentioned sliders, you will need to check if Windows is actually meant to be displaying them. To find this out, click Options on the menu bar, and then select Properties from the menu that appears.

In the properties window, make sure that either of the above mentioned sliders (in this case Stereo Mixex) is checked, and click OK.

Method 2 - External Equipment

Fully external equipment including external CD players and a mixer. For this set-up, you need to make sure that the mixer's Line Out is connected to your PC's Line In" (not Microphone).

This time, you will need to select "Line In" on the Windows recording mixer as opposed to Stereo Mixer.

With this kind of set-up you can easily overload the sound channel, causing sound distortion. Start with the "Line In" recording slider right to the bottom (minimum) and then slowly bring it up until the sound level is about right.

How do i book a show

Booking Your Show

Take a visit to our schedule section and find a free slot to book your show. Send an e-mail to the station founder with the details. Then all you need to do is turn up for your show - it's really that simple!

How many and how long can the Shows Time be

There is a minimum of two shows a week both being 2 hour slots (minimum) ie. Tuesday 4-6pm Saturday 8-10am We do not tie the hands of the DJ for the shows he presents only ask that he or she keeps the show free from swear words either via sound tracks or voice. Also that the DJ does not play more than 2 tracks of the same artist in a row. You get to choose the music genre and make the play lists. Its completely up to your imagination and creation.
